Client has announced the signing of an agreement with design consultancy firm Dar Al-Handasah (Shair & Partners) to design the Dilmunia Gateway Bridge in this development. The bridge will be located on west entrance, connecting Dilmunia Island to the mainland. The Dilmunia Gateway Bridge will be a unique structure compatible with the architectural theme of the island. It will blend with the spirit of Dilmunia and be visually prominent in its settings, differentiating Dilmunia from other projects. The bridge will be designed at a high standard to be an aesthetically appealing landmark in Bahrain.

Client has awarded the first phase infrastructure contract to Cebarco Bahrain. The contract is valued at $22.5 million and covers road, power, water, drainage, communications and landscaping across the island's 125 hectares, as well as a bridge crossing Dilmunia's 'grand canal'. Work will take (24) months to be completed, staggered to allow sub-developments to also be completed and handed over by mid-2015. Cebarco Bahrain will be working closely with infrastructure designers Mott MacDonald and cost consultant DG Jones & Partners to deliver the services for this landmark project.

Client has requested tender for the first phase of infrastructure work and is aiming to start hand over of the first units by the middle of 2014. The first of four infrastructure development phases, which will include the 125-hectare island's highways, bridges, landscaping, power, water, sewerage, drainage and telecommunications supplies has been offered to (30) contractors. The winning firm will be appointed by end of the first quarter of 2012 and work is due to commence in the second quarter of 2012. Construction is expected to take (24) months to complete, enabling sub-contractors to begin work in parallel. Preliminary development, including dredging, reclamation and rock protection works have already been completed on the artificial island. Later phases of the infrastructure work will also include completion of the Grand Canal.

Abu Dhabi-based Boskalis Westminster has been awarded a $69 million contract to carry out reclamation works on this scheme. 

This project will be developed on the north-eastern coast of Bahrain, off the Island of Muharraq and cover a total area of 1.25 million square metres. It will be in close proximity to Bahrain International Airport and easily accessible from Saudi Arabia via the King Fahd Causeway. The island will be divided into clusters, each focusing on different aspects of healthcare. Among the main features will be a 358-bed Wellness hospital catering to medical aesthetics, nutrition, diagnostics, alternative medicines and sports medicines. In addition, a 216-bed children and women’s hospital will cater to a range of maternal and paediatric care. Invitation to bid for the main contract is expected in May 2008, with submission of bids expected by July 2008. An award is anticipated by September 2008, with construction expected to commence in June 2009. Singapore’s DP Architects Pte. Ltd has been appointed to prepare the master plan and is also as architect.
