Work is in full swing on this development with the foundation and soil preparatory works already completed, thus marking a significant milestone in the development. The Grand Canal and Marina is a major element of the $1.6-billion Dilmunia Project, a mixed-use development built on a man-made island, off the coast of Muharraq with a unique health and wellness anchor comprising residences, hospitality and leisure, F&B strips and shopping districts. The Grand Canal will feature public promenades, geysers, water fountains, water walls, water cascades, boardwalks and viewing decks. The completion of these foundations and soil preparatory works will enable the development managers to now proceed with the final step of the construction of the Dilmunia Grand Canal. With a total length of 1.7 km, and a width spanning 15 to 35 m throughout the Grand Canal, it will have sea water pumped in around the mid-point of the Canal with the water flowing via gravity in two opposing directions of the Grand Canal. The Grand Canal will run through the entire stretch of Dilmunia in a semi-circular route, making it Bahrains largest man-made water body and providing breathtaking vistas to surrounding developments within Dilmunia, and one of Bahrains longest continuous promenades to residents and visitors of the island. The next key step is to award the contract for the Grand Canal works before June 2019 as the works have already been tendered for this.
It is understood that the main contract on this project will be awarded soon.
Client has awarded the design and supervision contract of the Dilmunia Mosque to MSCEB Architects & Engineers. Aligned with Dilmunia island’s vision to be a modern, tranquil and thriving community, the Dilmunia Mosque is an integral part of the master development, and will provide a space for worshipers to gather and pray in harmony. The mosque will enhance Dilmunia’s growing sense of community, as spirituality lies at the heart of Bahrain’s culture. The mosque will include a prayer hall with a capacity for 200 worshippers, segregated male and female worship areas, a multi-use community hall, and a library /reading hall, as well as a car park. Located on the western side of Dilmunia and strategically positioned at the island’s gateway with a 55-m water frontage the Dilmunia Mosque will stand-out as a building that is visible and accessible from the adjacent access highway, and is set to a design that is simultaneously breathtaking and functional. It has also taken into account the local Bahraini climate, with beautiful courtyards providing shaded outdoor spaces. The courtyards as seen in the rendering include fountains and walkways that surround the building, create a cooling and peaceful atmosphere. Surrounded by these scenic views of the ocean, open spaces, and ample parking, Dilmunia Mosque will encourage pedestrians to gather and simultaneously promote community integration. Dilmunia had completed its third and last phase of infrastructure in January. Meanwhile, the commencement of the Grand Canal and Marina works is ongoing, and as a key attraction to the Island. This area, named the ‘Canal Walk’ will complete the first phase by end of this year, and will support the positioning of Dilmunia as a destination of choice for residents and investors.
